Abstract

423 undergraduates read a scenario of an employment application and personnel selection procedure. Manipulations of (a) perceived control over the personal information disclosed in the selection process, (b) the outcome of the disclosure, (c) the type of disclosure, and (d) the type of information disclosed were incorporated into the scenario. Perceptions of invasion of privacy were also measured. Results suggest that both the perceived control variable and the disclosure outcome affected perceptions of invasion of privacy.
