Abstract

The development of a nationwide fallout shelter system has initiated research on the physiological, psychological, and sociological aspects of group isolation. The most austere occupancy tests have been conducted at the University of Georgia. Results indicate that healthy men, women, and children can endure 2 wk. isolated confinement under conditions of severe austerity without suffering deleterious physiological or psychological effects.
