Abstract

Used "usual occupation" instead of "current occupation" as a criterion to study the predictive validity of the Women's SVIB. 169 women who scored A or B+ on the Social Worker scale and a contrasting group of 125 who scored A or B+ on the Laboratory Technician scale in 1953-1955 were located in 1966-1967 and asked about their vocational history and current vocational commitment. 39% of the former and 36% of the latter group reported "usual occupations" appropriate to their SVIB scores; however, 44 and 40%, respectively, reported no "usual occupation." Among those reporting some career commitment, the predictive validity of the Women's SVIB was essentially equal to the validity of the men's form, but the SVIB was of no help in identifying which women would report career commitment.
