Abstract
Predicted that if the idea that the equity manipulation of attacking an S's qualifications for a task may generate feelings of low self-esteem and high insecurity is valid, then results of equity experiments could be explained more parsimoniously by expectancy theory. Conditions of job security (high-low) were varied independently of equity-overpayment manipulations for 32 Ss. 3 possible predictive models were put forward; data indicate that a model in which this equity manipulation (attack on qualifications) creates a security manipulation is appropriate.
