Abstract

Identified 10 factors in 13 rating scales in an employment interview for the Reserve Corps of the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) through factor analysis based on a sample of 628 applicants. The factors were: judgment, interest in the USPHS as a career, ability to work with and get along with people, voice and speech, appearance, stability and poise, confidence, alertness, originality, and ability to deal with professional problems. Striking findings were the relative independence of the interview scales and the fact that only 2 of the 10 factors were presented in an overall scale for rating general fitness for duty.
