Journal of Applied Psychology · 1970 · Volume 55 · Issue 5
Abstract
Discusses the importance of individual differences in the area of job satisfaction and work motivation. The logic of subgrouping was combined with a consideration of individual differences in the motivation to work in an attempt to shed some light on the satisfaction-performance relationship. 175 professional engineers were subgrouped on 3 motivational dimensions. Motivational type was tested as a moderator of the relationship between 5 factor analytically derived satisfaction dimensions and 6 performance dimensions. 2 of the emerging types showed moderator characteristics.
