Abstract

Compared employees (n = 1,205) having records of penalties for violating formal company rules, employees who were nonviolators, criminals, and psychopaths. Differences were found in personality test scores, including the general aptitude test battery, the kuder vocational preference record, and the gordon personal profile and inventory, administered to the majority of ss. Violators scored lower on the factors of cautiousness, vigor, responsibility, and emotional stability. Work groups that considered the leadership style of their supervisors to be social and well balanced rather than instrumental received fewer punishment letters than groups having the opposite pattern of opinion about their supervisors.
