Abstract

Reviews the book Industrial conflict by A. Kornhauser, R. Dubin and A. M. Ross (see record 1955-03163-000 ). The interdisciplinary efforts of Kornhauser (psychology), Dubin (sociology), and Ross (economics) are an attempt to fill an obvious gap in our knowledge about and understanding of the dynamics of industrial conflict. The editors indicate that they hope to meet the need for a comprehensive and integrated work in this area, but the varying emphases and points of view expressed do not provide the reader with a single frame of reference with which to view, let alone interpret, phenomena relating to industrial conflict. The volume would seem to have considerable value as a secondary source book for such widely dispersed courses as labor relations, industrial sociology, and personnel psychology. It certainly will be a valuable and much used asset on the bookshelf of any social scientist who is concerned with industrial conflict and its implications for our society.
