The Barron-Welsh Art Scale as a predictor of originality and level of ability among artists
Journal of Applied Psychology · 1954 · Volume 39 · Issue 5
Abstract
The Barron-Welsh Art Scale was administered to 44 art students, 8 art faculty members, and a group of nonartists matched with the artist group on age and sex. The test did not discriminate between art students and established artists, but there was a large significant difference between the nonartists and the art groups. For the art students, the test scores correlated .40 with ratings of the students' originality, and .34 with grade-point average. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
