Numeral form as a variable in numeral visibility
Journal of Applied Psychology · 1957 · Volume 42 · Issue 3
Abstract
4 experimental sets of numerals, designed to reduce confusions, were compared with a set of the currently most visible numerals under tachistoscopic viewing conditions. 6 of the experimental numerals were shown to be significantly more visible than the current standard. "A hypothesis… is proposed… two important but partially opposed variables in visibility of numerals… [are] boldness of stroke and openness of white space."
