The effect of stroke width on linear interpolation
Journal of Applied Psychology · 1954 · Volume 39 · Issue 4
Abstract
20 Ss were required to make interpolated settings on six 10-mm. scales on which the end markers differed in stroke width (hairline, 1 mm., 2 mm., 3mm., 4 mm., 5 mm.). With the five thicker strokes two of the interpolated positions could be set on the basis of Vernier accuracy by marker alignment. When uninformed of stroke width, mean error differences were not significant. When informed of stroke width, the 2 mm., 3 mm., and 4 mm. widths resulted in fewer errors than the hairline widths.
