Managerial role interaction: A study of three managerial levels
Journal of Applied Psychology · 1960 · Volume 45 · Issue 1
Abstract
How can managers better integrate their roles as superiors and subordinates? S were 45 managers in 1 medium sized plant. Rankings were for 16 occupational role prescriptions. The manager has an upward orientation, which is highly dependent upon the accuracy of prediction of demands. "The tendency to expect of those of other levels what one demands of self again tends to provide a necessary but not sufficient condition for developing a common set of values re supervision among various levels of management… . in the absence of adequate role demand communications, differential demands due to position in the management hierarchy may have in part accounted for the relatively lower commonalities in supervisory values between the plant manager and those in subordinate positions."
