Abstract

Reviews the book, The war and mental health in England by J. M. MacKintosh (1944). This book consists of a series of informal essays on mental health in England during the first four years of the present World War and the outlook for the Post-War period. The general point of view that scientific services, mental health, education and propaganda can make a great contribution both to war and peace is one with which few will disagree. But the professional person, however much he may enjoy the style and manner of presentation, may well feel that the book is somewhat vague and over-optimistic with regard to the contributions that can be made and quite lacking in concreteness and specificity as to their character.
