Review of Theory of mental tests

Abstract
Reviews the book "Theory of mental tests" by H. Gulliksen (see record 1987-97290-000 ). In this book, Gulliksen is not concerned with existing tests. Rather he is interested in presenting the mathematical and statistical bases of test construction. The chapters include discussion on topics such as: test score accuracy; error of measurement; reliability and validity issues; parallel tests; test batteries; and so forth. It is clear that Gulliksen intended his book as a text; yet it seems to this reviewer that until such tune as psychology departments see fit to strengthen their requirements in mathematics, the book is going to prove to be more valuable as a reference than as a text. Regarding the book as a reference work rather than as a text, it should be a welcome addition to the bookshelf of the professional worker in the field of mental tests.
