Review of Lie detection and criminal interrogation
Journal of Applied Psychology · Volume 30 · Issue 2
Abstract
Reviews the book, Lie detection and criminal interrogation by Fred E. Inbau (1942). The reviewer states that this book is intended primarily as a practical manual for criminal investigators. Its secondary objective is the stimulation of interest and research in the arts of lie detection and criminal interrogation. The first section describes the technique of scientific lie detection using the Keeler Polygraph to detect the physiological concomitants of emotional reactions accompanying deception. The second section describes practical techniques for criminal interrogation without lie detector aid. According to the reviewer, as a practical manual this book is outstanding, but the lack of theoretical emphasis and sophistication may impair its research stimulating value.
