Psychology for the profession of nursing
Journal of Applied Psychology · Volume 34 · Issue 2
Abstract
Reviews Psychology for the profession of nursing by Jeanne G. Gilbert and Robert D. Weitz (see record 2006-04459-000 ). The purpose of this textbook, prepared specifically for student nurses, is to present principles of psychology in such a way that the nurse can make use of them in understanding the patient. Sections deal with fundamental psychology principles, personality and mental hygiene in the normal patient, and personality maladjustments in the abnormal patient. The reviewer suggests that the material on fundamental principles of psychology, integration of personality, diagnostic tests and therapeutic techniques; which should probably receive greatest emphasis in a basic course in psychology; is so briefly presented as to be of questionable value unless supplemented with readings in other texts and periodicals.
