Surveys, polls
Journal of Applied Psychology · Volume 35 · Issue 1
Abstract
Reviews Surveys, polls, and samples (1950), by Mildred Parten, who has written the volume to fill a "need for a new book which would bring together in convenient form the current procedures used by population surveyors in such fields as marketing, political opinion polling, government census, radio audience measurement, socioeconomic assays, as well as in the more academic attempts of the social scientists to evaluate populations by questionnaires and related devices." Although this book is deemed a notable contribution to survey sampling methods, it becomes, in spots, a rather loose listing of points without adequate discussion or evaluations Also, readers may be disappointed to find so little reference to the opinion survey work of Gallup, Roper, et al., either for illustrative purposes or for descriptions of technique.
