Abstract

Reviews Comprehensive examinations in a program of general education (1949), from the Board of Examiners, Michigan State College. More than a manual of procedures for the construction of objective tests, this is an account of a program of general education, with emphasis upon the place of evaluation in such a program. It indicates in detail the form taken by the comprehensive examinations, with due attention to educational philosophy, administrative organization, and personnel problems. The specialists in the different subjects have constructed their tests using modern objective methods. This attempt to indicate in some detail the form taken by new-type tests in one general education program provides a basis for critical reaction by scholars.
