The airline pilot's job
Journal of Applied Psychology · 1948 · Volume 33 · Issue 2
Abstract
The selection techniques of 5 major airline companies were studied. From the personnel records of 432 pilots, it was found that the difference between the eliminated pilots and the successful pilots on no one of the 8 selection variables was significant even at the 5% level of confidence. Methods of evaluating performance also were found to be inadequate. The job of the airline pilot was then analyzed in terms of its "critical requirements" and a table of the critical components is included. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
