Abstract

A questionnaire called "Job Preferences (What makes a job good or bad?)" was given to 1360 applicants for jobs at the Minneapolis Gas Light Company. It consisted of the following items: advancement, benefits, company, co-workers, hours, pay, security, supervisor, type of work, and working conditions. These items were related to such variables as sex, marital status, age, salary, and education. It is concluded that, on the basis of these results, both management and unions have erred in their opinions and actions regarding those factors in a job which are most important to applicants.
