Abstract

80 NYA students, with a mean age of 18.7, were asked to rate their interest on a verbal-graphic rating scale for each of the main groups and occupations taken from the Strong Interest Blank. Afterwards the Strong blank was administered. Correlations between rated interest and interest as measured by the Strong blank ranged from -.07 to .47 for Strong's 6 main groups of occupations, and from -.05 to .54 for 20 separate occupations. "The lack of consistency between estimated and measured interests is most likely due to a lack of maturity and experience on the part of the student."
