Journal of Applied Psychology · 1951 · Volume 36 · Issue 5
Abstract
There were 151 post-poliomyelitic subjects in this study, all of them charity patients under 21 years old when tested. Findings included: (1) About 90% of the males and 43% of the females are employed outside of the home. (2) About 25% of the males and 10% of the females are owners of business establishments. (3) The median weekly income for males is approximately $74, for females approximately $60. (4) About 55% of the females and 35% of the males require some form of prosthesis. Neither serious physical involvement nor the need for prosthesis seems to be a major factor for those subjects who are at present unemployed.
