Abstract

This is a summary of several case studies that illustrate the author's point of view concerning the place of mental hygiene in the learning process. There is little in the field of academic psychology that can contribute to the learning processes concerned with human relationships when such relationships depend upon the development and persistence of communication techniques. The learning attitude that makes for mental health is an attitude that enables the development of techniques of communication both to himself and to others. Conversely, the learning attitude that leads to emotional sickness is characterized by the fact that the individual becomes less acceptable to himself and hence less understandable to himself and others.
