Abstract

In either right- or left-handed individuals, handedness does not manifest itself in the task situation as a simple matter of general superiority of the preferred hand over the other. In right-handed subjects, there is no significant difference between the two hands in the travel component of motion, but the right hand is markedly superior to the left in the manipulative component of the motion pattern. The applied problems of design of controls for the two different hands center particularly around the questions of manipulation rather than distance linkages between separate controls.
