Abstract
When an individual is to be classified as possessing a certain amount of a trait on the basis of a case record the usual procedure is to weigh the relevant bits of information which it gives and arrive at some kind of a summary judgment. It is suggested that a score can be obtained from the case record if those parts which are indicative of a high amount of the trait are given a value of + 1, and those indicative of only a small amount a value of -1. The algebraic sum of these indicators divided by the total number of indicators will be the individual's score. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
