Abstract

48 exit interviewers reported topical analyses of exit interview content. Complaints about pay were mentioned most frequently as a reason for quitting, followed by complaints about transportation, promotion, etc. It is concluded that the relatively heavy emphasis on pay and working conditions agrees with the findings of job satisfaction surveys, but disagrees with "factor importance" ranking studies. Comparison of topic frequencies reported by regular counselors with exit interview topic frequencies showed substantial agreement. A cluster analysis of the frequency intercorrelations yielded five "climatic patterns." (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
