Abstract

An experimental group of 30 nurses and a control group of 29 took a battery comprising a Nurse-Patient Situation Test, the Adorno F-Scale, and a Memory Test (score: ratio of physical to psychological items recalled from a case history). The experimental group participated in a non-directively oriented nurse-patient relationships course. Posttest score differences indicated that the experimental group shifted more in the direction of non-directive type responses, than the controls, towards the democratic end of F-Scale, and to a lower physical-to-psychological-items ratio. "… nurses' skills and attitudes can be modified in a significant fashion when nurses understand the nature of the techniques they use… ." (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
