Abstract

As counselor, the author gathered data on 500 consecutive soldiers (ranging in rank from private to master sergeant) prior to their return to civilian life. Correlations between rank and various test scores and several other factors indicate that rank, in the branches of the service investigated, bore little relation to factors studied. Mechanical aptitude, AGCT scores, and grade completed showed correlations with rank of .33, .28, and .23 respectively. Volunteers held statistically significant higher ranks than draftees.
