Abstract

Studies of the relationships between verbal analogies test scores and both verbal and non-verbal or general abilities tests show apparently contradictory results, but seem to indicate that verbal analogies, at least for a heterogeneous population, measures largely what more general, or even non-verbal, tests measure. Factorial studies tend to agree with the logical analysis into verbal and reasoning components. Eight tentative rules for the construction and use of verbal analogy items are given.
