The motivation factor in testing supervisors
Journal of Applied Psychology · 1952 · Volume 37 · Issue 3
Abstract
Two groups of supervisors took 2 forms of the Wonderlic Personnel Test, one group for research purposes, the other for possible promotion. Each supervisor was ranked by superiors to obtain a criterion. The latter group ("promotion motivation") produced significantly higher scores on the second administration, while the former group did not. The promotion group showed a lower correlation between the two forms than did the research group, but a higher correlation with the criterion.
