Abstract

Comparing the activities of matched groups of 137 television-owning families and 137 non-owning families, in a sample week, results show that the total participation in out-of-home activities was 24% less for television families. Owners are enthusiastic about television, even preferring the advertising to radio commercials. Television's influence was felt more strongly among the middle-class families than among those higher in the socio-economic scale. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
