Socio-psychological factors in industrial morale: II

Abstract

A previous study by the author indicated that 4 tests of morale had little predictive ability for such performance indicators as absence from work. The intercorrelations of the 4 tests are presented. One of these tests, SM, a self-rating of morale by workers, is used as a criterion. Most of the multiple R of + .69 of the other 3 tests with SM is contributed by an r of .67 of SM with GM, a 34-item group morale projective type paper and pencil test. To answer the question "What do the workers mean by morale?" the 34-items of the GM test are treated as a battery of tests, using Gengerelli's technique. Beta weights and multiple R with SM, and intercorrelations for the 4 "factors" (items) obtained are given. The 4 items are listed. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
