Abstract

A follow-up study of the satisfaction of 70 seniors, 62 juniors, and 52 freshmen was made at the Duke University School of Nursing. An adaptation of the Hoppock Job Satisfaction Scale was used. From both initial and follow-up studies it was concluded that there is an association between changes in the total environmental situation and the extent of satisfaction with nursing. Responses of both groups indicate that students become less idealistic about nursing and more realistic as they progress through the school.
