Types of errors in location judgments on scaled surfaces. I. Errors of configuration

Abstract
The configuration or shape of a field produces systematic errors in one part of the field as contrasted with errors in another part of the field. When the position of signals on the area of a sector-type scope reaches the apex of the scan-line sweep, in what is essentially a triangular area, overestimations of space range from complete lack to about 65% relative overestimation of the apex. The design of the field of a radar scope must take into consideration the shape of the field for its total effect on scope reading errors. Clearly visible multiple scaling will reduce the space distortion. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
