Studies in job evaluation. 9. Validity of a check list for evaluating office jobs
Journal of Applied Psychology · 1951 · Volume 36 · Issue 2
Abstract
This study was to determine the validity of a Job Description Check-List for evaluating office jobs. Data were obtained from 5 companies. Key office jobs were rated on a paired-comparison basis by selected judges; check-lists were completed for the key jobs; and the 10 operations judged most important to the job were indicated. Judges ratings were used as criteria. It was found that the 5 operations judged most important to a job appear to be the optimum number for evaluation purposes. For the promotion of good employee relations, it is considered advisable that all operations be included, with the 5 most important operations being given most weight.
