Abstract

Reviews the book, The Psychology of Drawing by Fred Carleton Ayer (1916). The general setting and scope of the problem, which is outlined in the first chapter, is the study of drawing and its value in laboratory exercises as a part of teaching the sciences in high-schools and colleges. The second part, chapters two to five, presents a condensed survey of the literature of drawing, discussing the chief contributions from the standpoint of methods of research, relation of drawing to intellectual development and analysis of the drawing products and of the drawing process. This is supplemented by an extensive bibliography of 110 titles, in which the chief points of interest and value of the special works on drawing are briefly indicated. In the third part the author's original investigation is described. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
