Abstract

A pile of advertisements appearing in one issue of the Saturday Evening Post were presented with an equal number of advertisements which had appeared during the last two years to a group of 80 adults and 14 college students of both sexes. The subjects were requested to make four judgments concerning each advertisement, viz.: (1) absolutely sure, (2) almost sure, (3) guessing, or (4) sure had not been seen in the particular issue of the magazine. Other things being equal, all the pages in the magazine seem to have equal attention value. There appears to be no justification for preferred positions of advertisements.
