Abstract

Of 1,156 accidents in which a city street car and an automobile were involved, most were confined to or peaked into three periods, 7 to 9 a.m., 4 to 7 p.m., and 9 to 11 p.m. More accidents occurred during the second period than during any other period. Most fatal accidents occurred during the early morning hours, from about 3 to 5 a.m. Only a very small number of taxicabs were involved in the accidents, although a large number of taxicabs were always on the streets. Of the 1,156 accidents 4.4% involved women. Estimate from count of cars passing certain points at certain periods of the day indicated that 16.3% of the cars on the street were driven by women.
