Abstract

Investigates the psychology of skill from the objective standpoint and the rate of improvement under different methods of instruction. The learning curves in typewriting were studied over a period of practice extending from 20 to 180 hour for 20 Ss aged 16-18 yrs. The results showed: 1) there was no fundamental typical curve of improvement 2) most of the Ss exhibited short plateaus 3) some Ss showed positive acceleration in improvement in the period between 20-60 hrs and 4) Ss were erratic in their variation from week to week. The early results have been analyzed from the standpoint of their value in the prediction of future typewriting skill. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2024 APA, all rights reserved)
