Abstract

Investigates the possibilities and limitations of a written test on 101 Ss (35 novices, 4 apprentices, and 62 journeymen). Two combinations of questions were tried - the method 1 consisted of set of 62 questions and method 2 consisted of 18 questions selected from the original 62. Both combination separated the novices, apprentices and journey men, with a very high degree of accuracy, but neither of them differentiated between the journeymen and the experts. The eighteen question set was slightly more efficient. In the absence of extreme language difficulty, the written group examination could be used with great advantage to eliminate the bluffer; to separate the apprentice of average attainment from the journeymen.
