Journal of Applied Psychology · 1916 · Volume 1 · Issue 4
Abstract
Presents a test for the memory of names and faces, consisting of 100 pictures of men, approximately 2 inches square, and pasted in rows on a large sheet of paper. Duplicates of 20 of these pictures are pasted on a card of a smaller size, and 1 of 20 common names is typed under each. Ss are required to recognize and name the 20 faces from among the 100. The original basis of the test's scoring for 72 Ss varies between 10 and 92, with 5 points allowed for each correctly named face and 2 point for each correctly recognized face. The reliability of the test, determined on 33 Ss, shows a Pearson product moment correlation of 0.78. Finally, the validity of the test, or its ability to measure ability actual practice is reported on 10 Ss. The agreement between the test rank and the rank with people is comparatively close, especially with the extremes. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2016 APA, all rights reserved)
