A program for a psychology of literature
Journal of Applied Psychology · 1917 · Volume 2 · Issue 4
Abstract
Discusses the need for devising special tests to determine literary abilities. The material of the tests could be useful in giving advice to college students, especially to students of journalism. The discussion has been organized under four heads: (1) general psychological points of view significant for literary criticism and comprehension of the different forms of literary production (2) a listing of a few of the possible experimental investigations that have a specific application to the psychology of literature (3) suggestions as to possible diagnostic tests of literary ability and (4) consideration of possibilities in the way of stimulating literary invention by utilization of devices for initiating and controlling imaginative work.
