The curve of work and the curve of satisfyingness
Journal of Applied Psychology · 1916 · Volume 1 · Issue 3
Abstract
Examines the productivity and satisfyingness in 29 adults who graded 10 printed compositions for 2 hours on 2 days. Speed of work in terms of time taken to complete it, quality of work in terms of competent grades and the satisfyingness was scored from one to ten after every 20 minutes. Results showed that quality and quantity of work remained the same during the two-hour period but satisfyingness decreased steadily. Five other individuals performed the same work for four hours continuously. The results corroborated the earlier ones. The results supported the fact that the effect of lack of rest was greater upon the physiological basis of interest, willingness, or tolerability, than upon the physiological basis of the quality and quantity of the product produced.
