The selection of student nurses
Journal of Applied Psychology · 1932 · Volume 17 · Issue 5
Abstract
Ratings given by a psychologist in a 30- to 60-minute interview to a group of 20 student nurses yield rank order correlations of .78 ± .13 with supervisors' ratings and .81 ± .06 with grades and supervisors' ratings combined. Age, intelligence and Thurstone personality schedule scores do not appear to be significantly related to success in nursing training. Cases studied and reasons for resignation are considered in detail. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
