Abstract
Reviews the events of the Eighth International Psychotechnic Congress, held in Prague in 1934. The purpose of psychotechnic is "to put the right man in the right place." It strives to judge the applicant only on the grounds of his capacity for work. The work of the Congress was divided into several sections: industrial, vocational, commercial, statistical, and pedagogical. Research in several areas was reviewed, including that of "ascertaining which abilities and traits are decisive for the successful guiding of automobiles." The application of psychotechnic to tests for chauffeurs and railroad personnel, and its role in understanding accident susceptibility, were discussed. Also covered was the importance of vocational psychology, and its role in understanding criminally inclined youth. It was noted that criminality can often be traced back to a blunder in the choice of vocation. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2025 APA, all rights reserved)
