Abstract

86 police officers, all attending college, responded to the Hierarchical Control Scale, an attitude scale measuring preferences for control based on knowledge, status, and authority. 40 Ss also took the Dogmatism Scale. While dogmatism scores of police officers were not different from those of nonpolice Ss of the same age and education, Hierarchical Control Scale scores differed significantly.
