Abstract

Investigated E. E. Lawler's (1971) postulate that an individual's performance-to-reward subjective probability, or Expectancy II, is influenced by the individual's belief in J. B. Rotter's internal vs external locus of control construct (1966). Results confirm Lawler's postulate across multiple occupational levels in a hospital setting and show that the effort-to-performance probability (Expectancy I) is also related to locus of control.
