Factors Affecting Cognitive Resistance to Advertising
Journal of Consumer Research · 1975 · Volume 2 · Issue 1
Abstract
This article examines the relationships between three personal characteristics of adult females and their cognitive responses to a commercial message under different reception conditions. Two trait-type characteristics, general social confidence and information-processing confidence, and one acute characteristic, peer-designated topical opinion leadership, were studied. These factors did affect counterresponse activities as hypothesized.
