Mary Frances Luce is an assistant professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. John W. Payne is the Joseph J. Ruvane, Jr. Professor of Business Administration at the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University. The Leo Melamed Prize was established by the University of Chicago Journal of Business to recognize the most significant research done by business school faculty members in all fields at all universities other than the University of Chicago. The prize is awarded every two years and carries with it a citation, a medal, and an honorarium. The prize was established in 1978 to honor Leo Melamed, the chair of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and a pioneer in modern financial practice. Past recipients of the Melamed Prize have been predominantly economists and finance professors, including Nobel Laureates. Bettman, Luce, and Payne are the first consumer reseachers to receive the Melamed Prize.
