On using an incorrect value of σ2B/σ2 in balanced incomplete block designs

Abstract

SUMMARY A formula for an upper bound to the propartional loss of information due to using some value of the ratio of the block component in inter-block variance to intra-block variance is derived. It is shown that this loss is small if the value used is not too discrepant from the true ratio.
